The Yemeni Coast Guard intercepted the oil tanker carrying the Comoros flag, which was en route to Al Ras Issa port controlled by the Houthis, after it had unloaded its cargo without prior approval from the Yemeni government. The tanker, named Nirida, flying the flag of the Comoros with IMO number 9163269, was stopped by Coast Guard forces in the Gulf of Aden after departing from Al Ras Issa. Armed guards aboard the vessel opened fire on it before it complied and headed to the port of Aden. Investigations indicate that the tanker entered Al Ras Issa and illegally unloaded its cargo without coordination with the authorities, in breach of United Nations procedures and sanctions imposed on the Houthis.
