Rubio expels Iranian delegation over stalled talks
Axios reported that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio instructed the Iranian delegation, including his counterpart Abbas Araqchi, to leave New York on Monday evening after indirect talks between the two countries stalled despite Qatari mediation efforts, which did not lead to significant progress. This move reflects the mutual distrust between Washington and Tehran. A U.S. source described it as an uncharacteristic diplomatic rebuke and indicated it underscores the deadlock in efforts to reach an agreement to end the war between the two nations. The Iranian delegation departed hours after the request, heading to Doha, even though Araqchi was scheduled to return to Tehran that same night. Meanwhile, Qatari mediators continue their attempts to broker a settlement amidst the stagnation in negotiations.
