Pakistani airstrikes in Afghanistan kill 10 civilians
Pakistan has launched new airstrikes in regions of Afghanistan, targeting hideouts of militants whom they accuse of carrying out cross-border attacks, according to the Pakistani government, which reports killing 22 militants in these operations. In response, the Afghan government, controlled by the Taliban, announced that the strikes targeted residential houses, resulting in the deaths of 9 women and children and injuring 11 other civilians. The United Nations confirmed that 10 civilians, mostly children, were killed, and 9 others wounded in the strikes. Tensions between the two countries have escalated, with organizations documenting over 1,100 civilian casualties due to cross-border violence since the beginning of the year. Reports indicate that Pakistan has repeatedly carried out strikes within Afghan territory as tensions rise, while both countries deny targeting civilians and instead accuse each other of harboring militants.
