Taiz Resists Major Houthi Assault
The Yemeni government forces repelled a new wave of Houthi attacks on the western front of Taiz, where the rebels attempted to advance through the Jebel Haan area, Hadhran, and around the old airport. However, the forces successfully thwarted the attacks without achieving any territorial breach. The government forces launched precise targeting operations against Houthi regroupings in various regions, resulting in the death and injury of approximately 1,540 Houthis and the destruction of over 216 military vehicles within a week. Meanwhile, intense fighting has also affected civilians, with six people injured in artillery shelling targeting residential neighborhoods. This ongoing military escalation aims to isolate the city and curb Houthi expansion at the expense of the local population. The United Nations has warned of the risks associated with escalation and damage to infrastructure, urging the protection of civilians and the facilitation of humanitarian aid access.
