Beijing: Coco Gauff ousted by Mertens
Coco Gauff's departure from the women's singles competition at the China Open in Beijing came after her loss to Belgian Elyz Mentzen in the fourth round, amid receiving racist comments on social media following a controversial point. Mentzen, ranked 19th in the world, won the match 6-3, 6-3. She also wished her coach and friend a happy birthday. This victory marks a step forward in Mentzen's performance, as she reached the quarterfinals of a major tournament for the first time in five years in the 1000-point category, highlighting her improved record against top-10 players this year.
