Israel warns of plans to expand occupation and displace Lebanese
Israeli threats against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon are intensifying, as Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz announced that Israel will deliver a harsh blow to the group and expand its control in the region. He also threatened to evacuate the southern suburbs of Beirut and displace more than a million Lebanese Shiites if Hezbollah joins a potential Iranian attack on Israel. These threats have been accompanied by continued Israeli airstrikes and patrols in southern Lebanon, including artillery shelling of multiple areas and the movement of Israeli vehicles in some locations, in an effort to escalate military pressure amid the possibility of an Iranian attack prior to the Israeli elections on October 27.
