Flooded Streets in Turkey and the Lady with a Cane
Turkey, especially Istanbul and Yalova, experienced heavy rainfall leading to floods, landslides, and a complete halt of traffic. An inspiring individual initiative emerged from a resident of Yalova, who used her crutch to clear storm drains of leaves to reduce water pooling, despite the municipality later sealing off the area again. Heroic rescue operations continued, with two young men saving a woman swept away by the waters and passengers being evacuated from a bus stranded by the floodwaters. The floods submerged vehicles and properties in multiple areas, prompting authorities to declare a state of emergency for response efforts, deploying thousands of personnel and equipment, along with warnings that the bad weather conditions are expected to persist.
