Colombia mine collapse causes 14 deaths
The authorities in Colombia announced that 14 people have died and another 7 injured due to the collapse of an illegal gold mine in the Chambéro area within the Santa Bárbara de Iscuandí municipality in the Nariño region. The incident occurred in a rural area, and officials confirmed that search and rescue operations have concluded. The government has called for the expedited regulation of illegal miners to improve working conditions and safety. It is worth noting that a similar incident took place in the same region last August, resulting in 13 deaths. This highlights how unregulated mining in rural areas often lacks safety standards, leading to repeated fatal accidents.
