Al Mazrouei: UAE expands energy sources
The UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, announced that the United Arab Emirates continues to diversify its energy sources through the development of clean energy projects and aims to increase its renewable energy capacity. The capacity has risen from 129 MW in 2015 to over 8.2 GW by 2025, contributing up to 32.4% of electricity production, with a plan to raise this to 35% by 2031. The country is investing around 200 billion dirhams up to 2030 in clean energy projects, in addition to strengthening its nuclear energy capabilities through the Barakah plant, which supplies 25% of the country's electricity and prevents emissions of 22.4 million tons annually. National strategies emphasize diversifying the energy mix, improving efficiency, and focusing on sustainability and energy security to meet future demand.
