Face images may predict cancer outcomes
Researchers at Mass General Brigham in New York have developed artificial intelligence models that rely solely on facial images to predict the biological age of cancer patients and their chances of survival. It was found that precise analysis of specific facial regions, such as the temples, forehead, and area above the eyes, can reveal accurate indicators of health status and mortality risk. The models correctly identified 52.5% of patients who were most likely to die within 90 days, aligning with their predictions, while the mortality rate among the least at-risk patients was 2%. The study confirms that this technique could help doctors assess patients more quickly and accurately. However, experts believe that the results still require clinical evaluation and are not yet widely used in medical practice.
