Iraq rumors border crossing closures
Reports indicate that an Iraqi official has closed the Al-Shib border crossing with Iran, while Iranian authorities confirm that all crossings with Iraq are open but have experienced delays in truck traffic. This closure comes amid American pressure on Baghdad to restrict border crossings with Iran in an effort to tighten the noose around Tehran. It is expected that all crossings will be closed except for one in the federal territories and another in Kurdistan. Despite this, travel remains ongoing with some delays, and officials have insisted that the closures are without prior notice unless they last more than a day. There is continued discussion about a U.S. move to reduce activity at the Iran border.
