Houthi blockade endangers Taiz and UN warns
The Yemeni governorate of Taiz is facing a severe humanitarian crisis as the Houthis have closed supply routes and intensified fighting, threatening the lives of more than three million people, including children, women, and internally displaced persons. This situation has led to a deterioration in access to food, water, and fuel, increased healthcare suffering, and a severe shortage of hospital services, medicines, and essential supplies. The United Nations has called for the urgent opening of roads to enable the delivery of humanitarian aid, warning of catastrophic consequences if the blockade and movement restrictions on civilians and supplies continue. Between August and October, 32 civilians were killed, including 14 children, and the number of injuries rose to 115. Water and health services have significantly deteriorated, with dangers of spreading waterborne and health-related diseases. The organization reaffirmed its ongoing efforts to provide aid despite the challenges posed by the road closures, urging all parties to protect civilians and facilitate safe access for aid delivery.
