Israel votes amid conflict and division
Israel is heading to a general election on October 27, 2026, amid the repercussions of the October 2023 attack and the government's failure to prevent it. There are calls for an independent investigation to hold all parties accountable and for a sharing of responsibility between the government and the opposition, including military leaders. The main challenges point to future security strategies, multi-front wars, and the depletion of reserve forces, in addition to the economic crisis linked to the cost of living, housing, and military spending. The elections are of great significance as they will determine the shape of the new government, security and economic policies, and the level of trust Israelis have in Netanyahu. Polls predict closely divided results, depending on the formation of a ruling coalition amid sharp divisions.
