Lebanon’s General Security Directorate and customs thwarted an attempt to smuggle 46.7 kilograms of cocaine through Rafic Hariri International Airport in what was described as the largest operation of its kind in the airport’s history. Forty packages were found hidden in the luggage of a Syrian passenger arriving from Accra on a Middle East Airlines flight. Electronic tracking devices were also discovered, and the passenger was arrested. Prime Minister Nawaf Salam praised the coordination between the two agencies, while investigations continue to uncover the network and identify those who were to receive the shipment.
