Tennessee prisoner survives botched execution
American inmate Krista Pike survived a failed execution attempt in Tennessee, where she was administered two doses of a lethal drug on September 30, 2023. Despite this, her heart did not stop, and she remained alive. She was taken to the hospital, where she began an exceptional recovery. Her condition still requires treatment, and concerns are raised about long-term psychological effects, such as trauma resulting from the failed attempt. Her lawyers are calling for the death penalty to be reduced to life imprisonment, emphasizing the importance of not attempting to execute her again. Pike was sentenced to death for killing a fellow student in 1995, and the execution was delayed multiple times before finally taking place.
