Algerian philosophy faces setback
The passing of Abdel Rahman Bouqaf represents a significant loss to the Algerian philosophical scene. He was among the most prominent philosophers who focused on critically examining the philosophical reality in Algeria and the Arab world. He called for the development of an authentic philosophical discourse rooted in the creative ideas derived from local reality, rather than merely replicating and implementing Western ideas. He greatly contributed to the advancement of philosophical critique and emphasized the importance of proposing intellectual projects that interpret and engage with reality. His work underscored the necessity of fostering a culture of questioning and liberating the mind from intellectual dependency. His book on the development of Hegel's philosophy is among his most important works, highlighting the importance of initiating an Algerian and Arab intellectual renaissance based on self-critique and the production of new knowledge to confront civilizational challenges.
