Franklin County Shelter Board reduces adult shelter budget
Franklin County's Community Shelter Board is planning to cut approximately 43% of its adult shelter capacity due to uncertain funding from the county, which has shifted away from a previous one-time investment. The reductions are occurring amid rising homelessness and are expected to increase street homelessness, as shelter services focus on prioritizing vulnerable populations and long-term housing solutions. County officials emphasize moving away from large, communal shelters toward permanent supportive housing and are seeking additional funding to maintain critical services.
