Baltimore mayor supports Baby Fund initiative

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott is supporting a ballot measure to establish the Baltimore Baby Fund, a municipal program providing direct cash payments or supplies to parents of newborns. The initiative, backed by over 10,000 signatures, would allocate a small portion of property taxes into a dedicated fund if approved, with the city council managing disbursement rules. The program is modeled after similar efforts in Michigan and aligns with national initiatives promoting guaranteed income for low-income families.
