Protests Over Public Education in France and Lebanon
The article discusses the protests led by contracted teachers in the Lebanese official education system, which began a few days ago in response to the Minister of Education's decision to suspend the work of 3,500 contracted teachers. This suspension has disrupted both secondary and primary education, exacerbating the longstanding neglect of the education sector. The article links these protests to the broader crisis of the confessional system in Lebanon and the worsening economic conditions, emphasizing that despite their recent emergence, the movement has garnered support from students and parents. It calls for effective support for public education, criticizing the government and political parties for their insufficient concern about the issue. The article highlights that the teachers' movement in Lebanon is unique nationwide, characterized by its independence, which sets it apart from other unions and political parties in the country.
