Lebanon Air Ban and US Restrictions
After 41 years of a ban on flights between Lebanon and the United States following the airplane hijacking incident in 1985, U.S. President Donald Trump announced in July 2026 his intention to lift the restrictions on air travel with Lebanon. In September 2026, he signed a presidential decree that revoked all previous restrictions imposed in 1985, 1992, 1998, and 2007, which had impeded the operation of direct flights due to security concerns and ongoing political conflicts in Lebanon. Reopening this direct flight route now requires legal, security, and operational measures, and the first flight is expected to be scheduled soon after these procedures are completed, paving the way for the resumption of flights between the two countries after decades of suspension.
