Macron urges calm before protests
French President Emmanuel Macron called for calm ahead of widespread protests planned against the rising cost of living, which are expected to attract around 200,000 participants, including 40,000 in Paris. As a precaution, demonstrations have been banned in the heart of the capital. The protests are accompanied by calls from the "Yellow Vests" movement and student groups, amid concerns over the possibility of escalating violence, especially given the tensions surrounding government austerity measures and increased public spending on services. The Prime Minister has ordered the creation of an emergency crisis cell to monitor developments, and authorities anticipate that the protests may lead to disturbances and the use of sound bombs by security forces if necessary.
