European Parliament awards Sakharov Prize to ICC
The news concerns the decision of the United States to impose sanctions on the International Criminal Court. The U.S. Treasury announced these sanctions on October 22, 2026, rejecting any attacks or threats against the court or its officials. This move comes in the context of American support for Israel's policies targeting Palestinian civilians, with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu stating that 90% of their mission in Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran has been accomplished, leaving 10% remaining. European Union countries condemned the U.S. sanctions and emphasized their rejection of any threats against the International Criminal Court, amid increasing European diplomatic activity toward a peaceful resolution in Ukraine. These developments have sparked tensions between Washington and several international actors, alongside renewed military and political support for Israel.
