The General Union of Palestinian Teachers announced that school attendance for the 2026-2027 academic year during the first semester will be at least three days per week, with the flexibility for education directorates to determine the specific days. There may be an increase coordinated by teachers with school principals, especially for the secondary and primary levels. Schools in the Jerusalem Directorate will operate at a full five-day schedule weekly. Additionally, children of teachers will be fully registered in universities through the entitled benefits, with a link to be announced soon after coordination with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. The Union also mentioned the disbursement of the 50% administrative bonus that has been pending since January, the transfer of part of the retirement funds to teachers based on their seniority, and the continued provision of transportation allowances for teachers. This comes amid economic challenges and the ongoing siege on Gaza. The Union reaffirmed its commitment to continue the union activism to achieve full salaries and to finalize agreements with the government.
