Google Introduces AI Comment Summarization in Docs

Google has launched a new feature within the Google Docs app that relies on artificial intelligence technologies. It allows for automatic summarization of document comments using the intelligent assistant Gemini. The feature aims to simplify the review process of lengthy and accumulated team discussions by providing organized summaries that focus on key points and make it easier to track unresolved debates. Options include customizing the summarization focus for comments from a specific individual or combining discussions related to a particular topic, without interfering in opinions or imposing resolutions on disagreements. The assistant can also suggest responses, edit texts, review linked resources, and analyze quality immediately. This feature is currently available to paid Google Workspace users who have enabled Gemini features, with gradual rollout over 15 days. It is limited to editing permissions only, ensuring no automatic changes are made to documents without user approval. This move is part of Google's efforts to enhance productivity and reduce the time spent reviewing discussions within work tools.
