Saudi Road Code Improves Infrastructure Preparedness
The General Authority of Roads in the Kingdom has indicated that the Saudi Roads Code has dedicated a volume to autonomous vehicles in order to enhance infrastructure readiness to support future transportation systems. The code includes technical requirements such as installing communication devices on both sides of the roads, designing road layers according to specifications that allow for the sustainable accommodation of autonomous vehicle movement, and implementing machine-readable traffic signs and markings to ensure the safety of intelligent systems under various conditions. Additionally, the code considers smart vehicle features like sensing and automatic operation to improve safety and efficiency. It serves as a unified technical reference for all relevant authorities to execute and maintain roads according to the highest standards of quality and safety, thereby contributing to the development of a smarter road network prepared for future transformations in the transportation sector.
