Kazakhstani Elena Rybakina, the second-ranked player worldwide, defeated Japanese Naomi Osaka in the US Open quarterfinals, with sets of 6-1 and 6-4 in an hour and seven minutes. This victory brings her closer to reaching the world number one spot for the first time in her career. With this win, she only needs to win one more match to claim the tournament title and overtake the previous champion, Sabalenka, at the top of the rankings—regardless of whether Sabalenka wins her third consecutive New York title. Meanwhile, Russian Mira Andrejeva, ranked fifth globally, also advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Botic van de Zandschulp, and she will face Coco Gauff in the next round. In the men's competition, second-ranked Alexander Zverev reached the quarterfinals after beating Italian Luchiano Darderi, and he will next face Botich van de Zandschulp.
