Tunisia Reports 91 Suspicious Flights in a Month
The article discussed the increased activity of the European Union's surveillance operations in the Libyan region during September 2026. It noted that the "IRENE" operation monitored 91 suspicious flights, marking a 65% increase compared to August. In addition, there was a rise in maritime surveillance through increased communications, joint visits, and the exchange of intelligence images, all aimed at enforcing the arms embargo imposed on Libya. The operations also saw an increase in intelligence reports and recommendations for vessel inspections, with continued monitoring of airports and ports despite a decline in inspections following the United Nations' mandate after May 2026. The operations are now based on Article 110 of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
