Legal setback for Trump: Journalists allowed in White House
A U.S. federal judge extended an order preventing the Donald Trump administration from banning journalists from three media outlets—CNN, MS N... (Note: the original mentions "MS NOW" which might be a typo or abbreviation; assuming it refers to MSNBC) and Politico—from entering the White House. The judge confirmed that this ban, announced by Trump in September 2026 without prior notice, threatens press freedom and exposes media outlets to irreparable harm, especially since access to the White House press area is essential for live reporting. The ruling comes in the context of a lawsuit accusing the administration of violating the First Amendment. The judge upheld that protecting free speech takes precedence over the national security concerns claimed by the White House and ordered that the current status quo remain in place until a final judgment is issued.
