Libyan Constitution Delayed Amidst Initiatives
The focus is on the absence of a permanent constitution in Libya and its impact on the country's stability and political reconciliation processes. Despite efforts by international and local initiatives, the constitution drafted by the Constituent Assembly in 2017 has not been ratified due to political conflicts and institutional divisions. As a result, the country continues to be governed by the provisional constitutional declaration. There are concerns that the ongoing absence of a constitution will undermine the legitimacy of political authority and prolong the division, with warnings that this situation will deepen external interventions and threaten the construction of stable state institutions within a permanent constitutional framework—especially given fears of the consequences of continuing the transitional phase without a clear constitutional framework.
