UN: 800,000 IDPs return to Lebanon
The United Nations reported that more than 800,000 Lebanese have returned to their original areas in southern Lebanon following a decrease in violence between Hezbollah and Israel. As of July 30, 821,077 people had begun returning home, while over 360,000 displaced persons still remain, including around 26,000 in emergency shelters. The conflict has caused the destruction of water and electricity infrastructure, affecting access to water for more than 700,000 people. Despite the ceasefire, Israeli airstrikes and military operations continue. Negotiations are underway to facilitate withdrawals from southern Lebanon and to disarm Hezbollah, but the group refuses to surrender its weapons and considers the peace talks to be treacherous.
