How Ships Navigate the Strait of Hormuz
The article discusses Iran's ongoing negotiations with Oman to establish secure maritime corridors through the Strait of Hormuz, which Tehran has partially closed following the American-Israeli attack. Currently, there are three routes for ships to pass through the port: one is an Iranian route on its territorial waters, considered the safest and used since June; another along the Omani coast where ships have been targeted with gunfire; and a previous route before the war that is now considered dangerous due to Iranian mines. As a result, the Strait of Hormuz—responsible for about 20% of global energy supplies—is experiencing increased tension, with Trump threatening to reopen it or launch an attack on Iran.
