Syrian authorities reported that a man, who was being pursued and accused of leading an armed group in rural Damascus, committed suicide while security forces were attempting to arrest him near Damascus. The authorities had previously captured Alaa Zahradine, who is considered one of the most prominent supporters of the criminal Giyath Dala. Dala led pro-Assad groups in the Syrian coast after his overthrow in 2024, and authorities had announced the killing of former security officials, including Firas Abdul Karim Hamoud, during security operations in the region. These operations come after the start of trials against former security officials following the fall of Assad, as part of the government's efforts to pursue rebels and armed groups.
