Berlin's refusal leads to release of a million dark web documents

Berlin's municipality faced a cyberattack in August that resulted in the theft of more than one million sensitive documents, including payroll data, banking information, and employee identities. The stolen data were published on the dark web after the city authorities refused to pay a ransom estimated at around two million euros. Officials confirmed that the stolen data include protective measures related to the fire department and employee lists, and that the attack caused disruptions to several departmental services for a week. The group responsible for the attack, known as "Raiseda," had previously carried out attacks on libraries in London and is considered one of the most dangerous hacking groups. The significance of this attack lies in its impact on the performance of government services and the safety of personal data, with authorities mobilizing to review the data and assess the damage.
