CAF President Considers Biennial AFCON
Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation of African Football ("CAF"), stated that the union is currently reviewing the decision to hold the Africa Cup of Nations every four years, following approximately 10 months after an earlier announcement to switch it to a biennial event. The union had announced in December 2025 that the tournament would be held every four years, starting with the 2027 edition in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, while also considering holding the 2027 tournament as scheduled and committing to returning to the previous system along with implementing a new African Nations League system in 2029. As of now, there has been no official declaration of canceling the four-year cycle, and the matter remains under review and discussion with the national federations.
