Iraq backs peace efforts
Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein emphasized that Iraq does not seek war and supports peaceful pathways. However, he warned of potential setbacks in efforts to reduce tensions between the United States and Iran. These statements were made during his meeting with the Italian Defense Minister in Rome, where the role of the international coalition in combating ISIS and supporting the training of Iraqi forces, including the Peshmerga, were discussed. He pointed out that ISIS still poses an ideological threat and that active terrorist cells remain a danger, despite the Iraqi forces gaining extensive experience in countering them. He also reaffirmed the ongoing international cooperation, especially with Italy, to bolster Iraq's military and security capabilities.
