China's World Heritage sites see ongoing preservation progress
The UNESCO World Natural Heritage sites in China have experienced continuous improvements in conservation conditions, with 90% of their evaluations rated as excellent or good according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). This is higher than the global average of 61% and the Asian average of 68%. China now has 15 World Natural Heritage sites and 4 sites that feature both cultural and natural characteristics. These sites cover more than 80,000 square kilometers across 20 regions, showcasing diverse environments such as mountains, forests, wetlands, and deserts. China's efforts to enhance protection have been intensified through a system of protected areas, with natural restoration processes occurring in approximately 80% of the sites. These initiatives have helped preserve their authenticity and the integrity of their ecosystems.
