Uruguay Football Responds to Player Sanction Rumors
Uruguay's national team suffered a severe blow after being eliminated in the group stage of the 2026 World Cup. The team faced controversy over canceling their return flight, with players being separated from returning via commercial flights as a form of punishment. The Uruguayan Football Association denied this, confirming that the decision was due to players dispersing after matches and the lack of a unified plan. The team was also shocked by draws against Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde, as well as a loss to Spain, leading to frustrations for coach Marcelo Bielsa. The future prospects for the team remain uncertain.
