The rising funding crisis threatens the future of education for millions of refugee children worldwide. Last year, approximately 5.8 million refugee children were unable to attend school, representing 44% of the total 13.1 million school-age children. Opportunities for education vary by level: two-thirds of children receive primary education, while the percentage drops to one-third at the secondary level. On the other hand, higher education for refugees has seen significant growth, with the number of students enrolled in universities and vocational institutions exceeding 450,000 in 2025. This marks an increase from 9% to 11% of the total eligible refugees, but ongoing funding shortages threaten the sustainability of these gains.
