Trump grants Russia sanc tions exemption
A few days before the new sanctions law took effect, U.S. President Donald Trump issued an executive order exempting Russia from the primary sanctions and tariffs. These sanctions would have imposed up to 100% tariffs on Russian oil and gas imports and on other countries assisting Moscow in bypassing sanctions. The exemption includes temporary preferential measures and aims to serve American national interests. These decisions have drawn criticism from Democratic circles and some members of the Republican Party, especially after Trump’s agreement with Russian President Putin to resume diesel exports in exchange for sanctions easing. This move has caused discontent in Ukraine and internal disagreements regarding Washington’s level of support for Moscow amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.
