Women face heavy burdens in caring for relatives in Germany
A recent study predicts that the increasing responsibilities of caring for relatives in Germany could lead to the loss of approximately 229,000 jobs by the year 2045. Women are expected to be more significantly affected, with around 580,000 women potentially reducing their working hours or ceasing work altogether due to these caregiving duties. Currently, women make up two-thirds of caregivers and provide care for the majority of those in need, which impacts their professional and economic opportunities. The German Social Solidarity Association calls for comprehensive reforms to ensure adequate care services and to alleviate the burden on families, including improved funding and increased support for those providing home care. Their contributions are estimated to have an economic value of around 206 billion euros annually.
